All about Google AdWords

Today’s entry in Guest blog week fortnight is from the effervescent June Cory of My Mustard fame. (Regular readers with really good memories may remember My Mustard due to a Flash game we made for them to raise money for EB Trust).

My Mustard are Google Adwords specialists, which are the paid search results that appear to the top and right hand side of Google’s search results.  And what these ladies don’t know about getting sites to the top of Google probably doesn’t work, and today June is giving some advice on easy, free ways to improve your ranking:

I spend my days helping people get seen on Google via a combination of DIY SEO, AdWords and social media. Most people get it now; they know that by increasing their online visibility, they’ll get more visitors and if they have targeted effectively, those visitors will turn into customers.

I like it, I really do, and the smile when the penny drops never ceases to thrill me. However, what stuns me is how few people have a Google map listing. It’s the easiest way to get seen on Page 1, its location based (and over 40% of web users state a location when searching) and it’s free. All you need is a gmail address and a postcode. You’d be mad not to have a go, and this is what you need to do; visit Google Business, claim your business listing, and then complete each step of the process.

Not just the ones you fancy as Google rewards you for being comprehensive; use multiple phone numbers, weave your keywords through the 200 character description and choose five category headings. Add 10 images, yes 10, it will make a difference, five videos – if you don’t have any of your own just go to YouTube, find a couple you like that are industry related and whack them up. Fill in the boring bits like opening hours and additional information – it all counts – and also do an offer. Google need to validate the listing so you will get a postcard in 7-10 days with a PIN on it, type it in and you’re away. You should be found on page 1 within 48 hours. Then get your friends, family, customers to review you. Simples.
