London Toy Fair

Several of us at Team Slurpy spent yesterday at the Toy Fair at London’s Olympia. This was our first visit to the event, and was a fantastic opportunity for us to network with the Country’s biggest and best Licensors, Manufacturers and Distributors of Toys (not to mention an opportunity to play with lots of next years must-have Christmas presents).

When an animation studio begins production on a kids TV series, one of the most exciting things to imagine is that one day, perhaps you will see kids walking to school with backpacks, socks, umbrellas, pencil cases and soft toys with your characters face on. There is no feeling in the world quite like seeing a character that you first doodled on a napkin one afternoon come alive in the form of a cuddly toy, and we went to meet the people who make this happen.

Toy Fair panoramicIt was a pretty exhausting day – although compared to some of the other events we’ve been to at Olympia it was incredibly tranquil! There was lots of chatting and playing and sampling and stealing free pens as we went from stand to stand, and what was wonderful was how chatty and eager to help all the store holders were. We learnt a lot, made some great contacts and came away brimming with ideas. So when, in a couple of year’s time, your kid is badgering you for our latest merchandise, blame the Toy Fair!
